Music Monday - Africa (Toto)

TOTO was one of the hottest rock bands in the 80's. This song topped the charts in 1983. To think that this single didn't almost make it to their Toto IV album because the song itself was very different from anything the band had done before and some members felt it did not sound like Toto at all. Little did they know that this song would pave the way for winning the hearts of non-rock fans.

Join me as I make another trip down memory lane... =)

The Man In The Mirror Tried To Heal The World

"I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could
Have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and
Then make a change..."

ED BRADLEY
: Michael, what would you say to you — your fans, who have supported you through all of this, and — and who today, some of them might have questions? What would you say to them?

MICHAEL JACKSON: Well, I would tell them I love them very much. And I— I— they've learned about me, and know about me from a distance. But if you really want to know about me, there's a song I wrote, which is the most honest song I've ever written. It's the most autobiographical song I've ever written. It's called, "Childhood." They should listen to it. That's the one they really should listen to. And thank you for your support, the fans around the world. I love you with all my heart. I don't take any of it for granted. Any of it. And I love them dearly, all over the world.

(Interview With Ed Bradley On '60 Minutes')

Here are some of MICHAEL JACKSON'S songs that made a difference in this beautiful yet chaotic world of ours...

We may never see him perform live again but his songs will linger on through many generations to come.

How about you, have you thought of doing anything significant with your life? Nothing big is necessary... making someone smile each day is enough.

Here's my share:

Things I've Learned...

I've learned....
That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

I've learned....

That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned....

That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

I've learned....

That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned....

That being kind is more important than being right.

I've learned....

That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I've learned....

That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.

I've learned....

That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned....

That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned....

That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.

I've learned....

That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned....

That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've learned....

That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned...

That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned...

That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned....

That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned....

That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned....

That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned....

That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned....

That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned....

That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned....

That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned....

That opportunities are never lost, someone will take the ones you miss.

I've learned....

That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned....

That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.

(***My own Mom is still alive and I never fail to tell and show her how much I love her every opportunity I get.)

I've learned....

That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned....

That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned.....

That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.

(*** I am looking forward to this experience. But not too soon I hope because my eldest child is only 15.)

I've learned....

That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned....

That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

[A friend emailed this to me today and I felt that it's worth sharing with everyone. Although this collection was originally attributed to veteran commentator Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes, this was denied by a spokesperson for the show. It was eventually discovered that this is a collection of insights gathered from many people (ages 5 to 95) and compiled in a 1995 book called Live and Learn and Pass It On, Volume II.]

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you decide to see beyond the imperfections.

"Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward to the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage and confidence." ~ Og Mandino

If I could wish for my life to be perfect, it would be tempting, but I would have to decline, for life would no longer teach me anything.
