Happy and Sad Half Faces by Jim Dandy
happiness beckons...
a choice you have to make
no matter what the circumstances are
at the perfect time
it will all make sense
happiness beckons...
cast that smile up on the shore
the right attitude is your anchor
the best is yet to come
claim and embrace your bliss
happiness beckons…
yet you dwell on the odds
counting the obstacles
instead of the bounty
that passed you by unnoticed
happiness beckons…
yet you live in the past
like a spurned rose
you wither on the vine
and idly wait for Gaia to claim you

You express the difficulties to seize happiness when it beccons so well... An opportunity lost an it withers
ReplyDeleteI find that some people are better than others at seizing happiness! There are also moments in a life time where this is easier than others. I like the image of happiness casting a smile on the shore.
ReplyDeletesometimes the fear of being disappointed can hold us back to really embrace happiness...ah we should have more courage to run with her..smiles
ReplyDeleteBjorn, sometimes we just unkowingly let the opportunity go because we are so engrossed in our misery.
ReplyDeleteGabriella, thanks for appreciating my post. As they say, happiness is a matter of choice.
ReplyDeleteClaudia, that is so true. Fear is our biggest drawback.
ReplyDeleteGrief works like this, standing on a sunny shore and wondering how to embrace the happiness there. Something about the distance between the two that is slowly healing. I've heard it said that happiness is getting what you want (or getting it back) but wanting what you have (the sun that is here today). Best -
ReplyDeleteoh, living in the past will def pull us down...that fear of disappointment...nice job letting us see both sides....
ReplyDeletegood to see you as well...it's been a while smiles...
I like the approach you took to the 'on the other hand' prompt. So true sometimes that happiness does indeed beckon people sometimes, but they don't heed its call....and they look into the past instead of the present & they miss their chance for happiness before taking the leap of faith.
ReplyDeleteThank you also for sharing this with Poetry Pantry. Nice seeing you back posting again!
Hope in very difficult circumstance. Life is sometimes cruel and the past is always the past. Happiness is found in love. Nicely written.
ReplyDeleteSo true... happiness is in the present moment.

ReplyDeleteThe happiness
is good, I guess.
But better is
the common bliss.

good outlook on life in general...
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of Abraham Lincoln's quote: "We are about as happy as we make our minds to be."
ReplyDeleteYou are right that dwelling on the past, or our hurts sets us up for a cycle of despair.
I'm glad that you remember the past, but I'm so happy you have chosen happiness.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day honey. ♥♥♥
I wish you a happy new week.

BING!!!!!! I am so happy to see you in the Pantry - one of the very first members of Poets United!!!!! I love the message in this poem, which you exemplify in your own life so well - it isnt what happens to us that defines us, but how we react to it. Great write!
ReplyDeleteA lovely ride here, but it does put me in mind of defining happiness, because it is conjured up and enjoyed in many guises for many reasons. Some negative individuals are happy when they are hurting other people, every which way; and yet "on the other hand", too many of us are so skeptical, we pass up on our own happiness without recognizing it.
ReplyDeleteBrian and Mary, I am so happy to be writing here again. Despite the busy schedule, I really miss poetry and I am so glad that I have d’Verse and the Poets United to go back whenever I feel the urge to create. Thanks for the warm welcome. ♥
ReplyDeleteBlueoran, that is so true. I lived in that very dark place for a while and it took some conscious effort really to say “I have had enough of my misery.” It is a decision one has to make that whatever the circumstances are, he will find the sun.
ReplyDeleteAlan1704, I agree that in love, there is happiness. So be in love with life itself. ♥
ReplyDeleteLaurie, Anders and Robert, thanks for the kind words. ♥
ReplyDeleteBwfiction and Loredana, happiness is indeed a matter of choice. thanks for the kind words.
ReplyDeleteSandee, it is only by remembering that we learn from the past. And that’s where the past should just be- for the lessons. Thanks for always being so supportive of me. You are one of the blogging friends I treasure. Hugsssss ♥
ReplyDeleteMarciento, thank you. ♥
ReplyDeleteSherryyyyy, I missed you!!! Poetry Pantry is my favorite place and I always check it out whenever I go back here. Glad to join all of you this week. ♥
ReplyDeleteGlenn, that’s very well said. Happiness that stems from positivity is what we are all aiming for. I hav encountered many of those negative individuals you mentioned but believe me, you win them over to the positive side when you stop the cycle and radiate light that brightens up their day. The best revenge is kindness. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat message in this. Enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteIt's OK to be sad too but not to wallow in it. Sadness is necessary to realize your humanity, lament your mistakes, and console your losses. I am happy for my times of sadness for then I truly appreciate my joy when it comes.
ReplyDeleteLeave the past behind
ReplyDeleteDance in the light
