He will get you through it.

Believe It Or Not

set me free
from all the rules
you have made
for yourselves
i'm no longer
part of it
accept i'm gone
you have no hold
on me anymore
for so many years
you ruled my life
i was scared
i was blind
your traditions
dictated my world
back then
i had no choice
now i have
reclaimed
my life
you can say
what you want
but
you can't
hurt me
again

Musical Monday... What Moves You?
Believe It or Not by Joey Scarbury
[Theme from TV series "The Greatest American Hero"]

"Believe it or not,
I'm walkin' on air,
I never thought I could feel so free;
Flyin' away on a wing and a pray'r,
Who could it be?
Believe it or not, it's just me.
Just like the light of new day,
It hit me from out of the blue;
Breakin' me out of the spell I was in,
Makin' all of my wishes come true.

Og Bing you posted an old fave of mine! This is the theme from the TV show Greatest American Hero I have this song on a 45! as in vinyl!!! Just loved it!

Bing,

Your poem and your profile brought me to tears. I too have suffered a loss (I lost my father one year ago November 25 and my mom will be gone two years January 24. They died 10 months apart.) and yet the quote above could not be truer. I feel the nearest to them (or the light) when I am in my darkest moments and feeling the loneliest for them. They were not just my parents but my best friends. Yet, it soothes me a tiny bit to know that they are together. Theirs is a true love story. I thank you for sharing not only your poem but your story. We really do learn from our experiences, don't we? Thank you for sharing yours with all of us and especially me.

victoria (liv2write2day), i am not really a poet and i don't think poetically but yes, it helps that i have emotions and experiences to share which, interestingly, end up sounding like poetry. :D thanks so much for appreciating... as always. :))

I like the strong attitude that came out with this poem. excellent

Bing, I so enjoyed your poem of achieving your freedom--it's so important when we can live in this way--making our own decisions about our lives.

So I scroll down here to add my comment and see Vivekananda's quote and am surprised. I have a quote by him on my blog too and revere him as a great human being and teacher. It was an added bonus to see this here. Thank you.

Kavita December 8, 2010 at 6:02 AM

Oh yea, Bing... the age of freedom has finally unfurled itself upon us.. yaaayyy!!

A powerful and entitling write!

madhumakhi December 9, 2010 at 6:57 PM

I can relate to this poem because I have relatives who enforce their ancient meaningless customs and rituals on me. I hate it when they can't keep their religion to themselves even in their house. I like your poem for its simplicity the most.

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you decide to see beyond the imperfections.

"Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward to the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage and confidence." ~ Og Mandino

If I could wish for my life to be perfect, it would be tempting, but I would have to decline, for life would no longer teach me anything.
